Naples Region Epicenter of Major Tremors

Residents Evacuate After Violent Shaking

A series of powerful earthquakes has struck the region around Naples in southern Italy, causing widespread damage and forcing residents to evacuate their homes. The quakes, which began late on Sunday evening, have been centered on the Solfatara volcano, part of the Phlegrean Fields volcanic complex located near the city of Pozzuoli.

The strongest earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.4, occurred at around 10:30 pm local time. It was followed by a series of smaller tremors, including one of magnitude 4.0. The quakes were felt across the Naples region, as well as in neighboring provinces.

Many residents in towns and villages around the epicenter refused to return to their homes after the initial earthquake, fearing further aftershocks. Local authorities have set up temporary shelters for those who have been displaced.

The earthquakes have caused significant damage to buildings in the affected area. Several churches and other historic structures have been damaged, and there are reports of cracks in roads and bridges.

Emergency services are currently responding to the situation, and there have been no reports of any casualties or serious injuries. However, officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and to follow the instructions of local authorities.
